School districts in Erie, Crawford, and Warren counties got an early Christmas present.
Although they won't find out how big of a present, until February.
Wednesday night, the board of the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit, voted to give back some of the funds it has been collecting from those districts, for years.
For 40 years they've been providing services, to the districts.
And the fees they got have been building up.
The districts now want those surplus or hoarded funds back.
One audit put the figure at nearly $12 million dollars.
Another audit is now being done, to pinpoint the exact number.
Once that's complete, the board will decide how to divvy up the money.
School boards in 15 of the 17 districts served by the unit, have already approved the plan to get back the money.
The deadline is March 1st of next year.
