Auckland, New Zealand -
As our side of the globe churns closer to winter, down under is nearing on the first day of summer. While parts of Australia is used to intense thunderstorms this time of the year, New Zealand is often times protected by the mild ocean water surrounding the country.
A tornado swept through Hobsonville and Whenuapai (the western suburbs of Auckland) last week. The tornado killed 3 people and forced 250 to evacuate. The tornado was the deadliest in New Zealand in more than 60 years. The only other tornado to kill 3 or more people occurred in 1948 in Hamilton, New Zealand. That twister also killed 3 people.
