A big crowd turned out today at the Barber National Institute for a meeting focused on state funding for local agencies that help people with disabilities
Members of the State Senate Democratic Policy Committee held a roundtable discussion, at the invitation of Senator-elect Sean Wiley.
Senators are looking at the impact of the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare decision to label Erie as a rural area rather than urban. It means a $1 million funding cut to Erie County agencies.
Governor Tom Corbett has said he is reviewing the decision. But so far, the policy has not changed.
Wiley said, "It's not just about the providers. It is the people who receive services. Our most vulnerable constituents and neighbors are being affected and we are trying to make some noise so everyone understands the impact of these decisions."
The committee members also talked about the impact of the state's recent 10% cuts to human service programs.
