Bay Committee Wants to Stay Active

Posted: Updated:

It looks like the 21 year old Presque Isle Bay Advisory Committee will survive, even if the bay is removed from a list of environmental trouble spots around the Great Lakes.

The committee voted in favor of de-listing in July, after intense debate. But the federal government has the final say, and no decision has yet been announced.

Still members today said they want to keep working together, perhaps expanding their focus beyond problems like fish tumors and bay sediment.

Chairman Jim Rutkowski said, "Seems like everybody is in agreement. The committee needs to stay together, look for new members and we need to expand our horizon  to invasive species or the emerging contaminants coming up."

The committee will talk about it's future, in detail at it's next meeting in March.
