In response to the Connecticut school massacre, Dick's Sporting Good stores nationwide, are suspending sales of certain semi-automatic rifles. In a statement issued this morning, the company said, "During this time of national mourning, we continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy".
Local store officials confirmed the change, but would not speak on camera. The suspended sales are on guns known as M-S-R's, or modern sporting rifles. They've been pulled from shelves and photographs have been taken off the website. Shoppers we talked with outside the local Dick's store think it's a good idea.
"I think it's a step in the right direction," said Bryce McDermid, "I'm from Canada where the gun control is very strict. I thinks seeing what has happened in Aurora and Newtown and in Oregon, people want a change, to have a better comfort level, I believe."
Roger Huggins told us he can't see any reason for a multiple firing weapon to be in out in the public's hands. "I'm glad to see Dick's being proactive, it's better to do it now than when it's too late.
It's not know how long the suspension will last.
