Dedicated PO Box set up for Newtown families

Posted: Updated:

There is now a post office box dedicated to condolences for the victims of the Newtown shooting.

The postal service expects an influx of mail from now until the foreseeable future. The dedicated workers will help the small Newtown Post Office staff handle the enormous amount of mail they're expecting.

The address is:
PO Box 3700
Newtown, CT 06470

And if you're thinking of donating money to the families for funeral costs, be sure the money is going to the right people.

The Better Business Bureau of Connecticut issued a national alert urging people to be cautious of phony solicitors.

"Every time we see a tragedy like this, people take advantage of folks," says Dick Epstein with the Toledo-Area BBB.

Epstein says there are things you can do to make sure you're not scammed. First, ask questions! Second, be wary of emails. Some will look official, but chances are they are not from legitimate charities.

Finally, he says if you're not sure whether the charity is legitimate, contact the Better Business Bureau before sending any money.
