A woman with a lifelong love of Presque Isle State Park is donating more than $196,000 dollars to create a fund for repairs to structures like the Presque Isle Lighthouse and Perry's Monument.
Calling it a wonderful and beautiful place, donor Portia Norton is creating the fund through the Erie Community Foundation.
The Foundation will grow the money and work to bring in new donors. Four percent of the money will be available each year to be used for restoration projects at the buildings.
Specific projects will be designated by the Presque Isle Partnership and the money can also be used as a local match to seek federal funding as well.
"As a result, in the next 50 to 100 years these buildings will remain for future generations," Superintendent Harry Leslie told us. "And that's a really good feeling."
Some work could begin immediately or the Partnership could wait a year to allow the money to grow.
