MADISON, Wisc. -
As expected heavy snow and wind gusts topping 45 mph are occurring in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin this afternoon. As of noon a foot of snow has already fallen in parts of south central Wisconsin. Winds will continue to intensify on the backside of the storm system and bring near blizzard conditions to areas like Chicago and Rockford tonight.
Snow totals will end up ranging from 12-18" for a lot of south central Wisconsin and northern Michigan by late tonight. All of this is taking place right as many drivers are fueling up and hitting the road. I-80 in Nebraska has been shut down and Wisconsin has declared a state of emergency.
