TOLEDO, Ohio -
Snow plow drivers have a new source of on the job training, and it doesn't involve a plow truck. In the past couple of years, plow truck operators are staying sharp by training on computer simulations that mimic real life. In warmer climates, where a city may only average a few inches of snow a year, there isn't time for on the job training. When a rare winter storm strikes, road crews have to be ready. Computer simulators have become popular in the past few years in cities like Dallas and Phoenix. These simulators not only mimic snow covered roads, but they can simulate black ice, freezing rain, and wildlife encounters as well.
