A local woman used Facebook to organize a vigil in memory of the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy.
A luminaria was lit for each victim and the word "peace" was written out in light. People gathered round with their candles for an emotional bilingual rendition of "Silent Night."
Those gathered shared stories and prayed for the victims and their families. Before they started their own holiday celebrations, they wanted to be mindful of those who will be in mourning this Christmas.
Organizer Anita Priellip said, "I think we're blessed to be celebrating Christmas. Unfortunately, it should be a joyous time. But in Newtown, Connecticut, their hearts are aching right now."
People in attendance said they hoped people would slow down from the hustle and bustle of the holidays long enough to appreciate their families.
