Snow plows stay busy Wednesday afternoon

Posted: Updated:

ODOT leaders say workers put down a mixture of salt and water on the roads on Monday, just to get ready for Wednesday's snowfall.  The weather calmed down through the day, but drivers were still suggested to stay cautious through the nighttime hours.

One of the problems continues to be blowing and drifting snow. While there was a slowdown in snowfall, the winds were still in high gear, making it difficult to clear the streets.  Transportation officials say it was an "all hands on deck" kind of day.  Crews came in Wednesday at noon to get ready for the winter weather, and planned to stay out through Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

"At midnight, we're going to shift to a whole new round of crews so that all of our workers can be fresh and ready to go for the next shift that they are in," says Theresa Pollick, with the Ohio Department of Transportation. "This could be a long term storm, especially with the blowing and drifting."

As of 10 P.M. Allen, Huron, Hancock, Ottawa, Sandusky and Seneca counties were under Level 2 Snow Emergency.  Erie, Lucas, Williams and Wood counties were under a Level 1 Snow Emergency.
