An Erie native that was shot in Saint Louis this past October, during her final year of medical school rotations, is still on the road to recovery.
When Halley Briglia was mercilessly robbed and shot two months ago, she had to put her life on hold.
Now two of her best friends have asked the community to help cover the medical bills that are piling up.
They organized a fundraiser which will be held Saturday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
It's from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., and includes food, auctions, games and entertainment.
Tom Schumacher and Bryana Hayes reached out to local businesses for donations, and to help spread the word.
Shops like Nonna's Deli got involved by posting fliers and selling 50/50 tickets for the event.
Schumacher said once they started to get the word out, support for the fundraiser grew beyond his expectations.
"We've been in touch about it since Halley was in the hospital, since the incident," he said. "We decided that we were gonna have to do something but we didn't know to what extent, so the more we talked to people, the more support we gathered from the community, the bigger this thing grew."
If you can't make it to the fundraiser that's okay, you can still help out.
You can make a PayPal donation by emailing halleybrigliabenefit@gmail.com.
You can also donate to the Halley Briglia Medical Relief Fund at any PNC Bank branch.
