State Police responded to a case of animal cruelty in Waterford Saturday afternoon.
Neighbors reported that a dog named Abby was abandoned by her owners, and left out in the freezing cold for at least 24 hours.
Neighbors gave her food and water, but asked for authorities to interfere when no one returned to the home.
Police were not able to reach the black lab's owners, and decided to take the dog to the Humane Society.
The dog appeared skittish and frightened, and it took handlers about a half hour to secure her.
As for the owners, police said if and when they are found, they will face animal cruelty charges.
