TOLEDO, Ohio -
2012 is ending snowy and cold, and 2013 will start even colder. The first week of January will be 5-10 degrees below normal. Beyond that time frame the forecast gets tougher to pinpoint but the overall trends point towards warmer weather for the middle of January. Perhaps as early as the second week in the month, temperatures will bounce back near average to above average temperatures. Call it a mid January thaw if you would like, but don't call it the end of winter. Long range modeling and blocking suggests the worst winter cold and snow will fall in late January into early February.
