Erie City Council today held a public hearing to consider a zoning change that could pave the way for a future expansion of a local industrial firm.
McInnes Rolled Rings has a tentative deal to purchase nearly 16 acres of vacant land along East 12th Street, adjacent to it's factory. The land is owned by the Greater Erie Industrial Development Corporation, and the sale is contingent on the zoning change that must be approved by council. It could mean an expansion sometime in the future.]
Katrina Smith of GEIDC said, "We do not want any of our manufacturing to be landlocked because we all know what happens when that occurs. They start looking at other locations and often outside the city and county. so what this will enable us to do is provide that opportunity for them in the future. So essentially we are solidifying this commitment to our region."
The City Planning Commission supports the zoning change. Council has scheduled a vote on the issue at it's next meeting.
