TOLEDO, Ohio -
A lot of black spots are on the sun today. Here is a neat picture from NASA showing at least 14 sunspots that have developed. Many times sunspots are the source of solar flares that can create geomagnetic storms on earth. Despite the high number of sunspots, solar activity has been at very low levels. Space weather experts at NOAA say that the rapid increase in sunspots could lead to more solar flares over the next few days.
