Toledo, OHIO (WTVG) -- A woman was rescued hanging from ice on the Maumee River Sunday afternoon.
According to officials, the woman was walking across the river near Summit and Cherry Streets in Toledo around 11 a.m. and fell through the ice.
Luckily, someone spotted her on the river and immediately called for help. The Toledo Fire Department responded quickly, but had a hard time spotting the woman. It wasn't until they looked through the lens of one of our cameras, that they were able to confirm a person was clinging to the ice, struggling not to fall into the frigid water.
TFD, the Coast Guard and the Washington Township Fire Department also responded to the scene. Toledo put two divers in the water, but Washington Township ultimately retrieved the woman.
Officials say she'd been in the water about an hour.
Battalion Chief Dennis Facer of TFD said it was surprising the victim managed to hang on for so long. "Probably was pretty numb from top to bottom. I'm surprised they were able to stay, and they were struggling after a half hour or so."
Facer says the water was about 30 degrees and hypothermia could have set in.
There is no word on the woman's condition at this time.
