TIANJIN, China -
While we prepare for a bit of a January thaw, residents of China are coping with an exceptionally deep freeze. Meteorologists who work for Chinese Meteorological Administration (their parallel to our National Weather Service) say temperatures are the lowest they've been in decades in some parts of the large Asian nation. Officials in China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region estimate crop losses that equate to millions of US dollars, according to China Daily. Additionally, shipping and travel have been greatly impacted by sea ice, which has expanded in areas that typically don't ice over. The Chinese Meteorological Administration is reportedly alerting residents that another cold front will deliver yet another reinforcing shot of arctic air, early this week.
