An independent review of the Erie County Prison is now underway.
Two consultants from the National Institute of Corrections are spending today through Wednesday looking into personnel and procedures at the prison. They will submit a report at a later date with ideas to improve the operation.
In the past year, several corrections officers have been disciplined for a variety of infractions including a conspiracy to beat an inmate, theft of ammunition and credit card fraud.
The consultants are in Erie at the invitation of Erie County Executive Barry Grossman.
