We are already a week into the new year, and if you have a goal of getting fit and healthy, a local fitness facility wants to help you and all of Erie achieve that end. Best Fitness kicked off a twelve week community-wide contest called "Weigh-in" Erie. They're calling it an effort to make Erie, PA the healthiest city in America.
Mayor Joe Sinnott, joined the facility in October and has already lost 20 pounds. State Senator Sean Wiley, is also supporting the effort. You don't have to be a member of Best Fitness to sign up. Operations Manager, Bryan Tyler said, "It's not about signing up new members. What we want to do is educate the community on how they can live a healthier lifestyle, become more fit, eat better food, just really improve their overall lifestyle."
For the woman and man who lose the greatest percentage of body weight in 12 weeks there are prizes, including a Best Fitness membership for life. You can sign up at Best Fitness on line. Contestants will have to weigh in every other week throughout the contest, and the facility will offer weekly free classes to keep them educated and motivated. The first weigh in takes place Sunday, January 13. The weigh in won't be public, but Best Fitness will work with co-sponsors Erie Times-News and GoErie.com to post the top 10 contestants each week.
