It's another long day for PNC bank representatives as a persistent cyber attack campaign continued today, slowing or blocking the company's website.
That lead to renewed complaints on the company's Facebook page of customers threatening to find another lending institution.
The bank has been the target of an on-again off-again cyber attack since December 11th. It's called a Distributed Denial of Service attack, or DDOS.
The goal is not to hack into the system but rather to flood a site with so many requests that have to be denied by the programming that the system bogs down or stops completely.
The company is offering customer service reps to handle transactions over the phone and insists that no personal information or funds are at risk.
Capitol One and Bank of America have also been DDOS targets and with many of these attacks coming from overseas, law enforcement is concerned that a DDOS attack in the future could be a distraction for more criminal efforts.
