The flu has claimed it's first victim, here in Erie county.
As we've been reporting, the flu is on the rise in the county.
Monday, we've confirmed that one person in Erie county has died, of complications from the flu.
According to the Erie County Health Department, the victim was 65 or older, and died in the last week of December.
Erie county now has more than 250 reported cases of the flu.
We usually don't see those numbers until late February or early March.
And it's not just Erie getting hit hard by the flu bug.
It's shaping up to be one of the earliest and most severe flu seasons in recent years, across the country.
The CDC says the flu is already widespread in 41 states, and experts say between five and 20 percent of us could get the flu this year.
