PERRYSBURG, Ohio -
A deer was stuck on the frozen Maumee River Tuesday evening, between Perrysburg and Maumee, about halfway between the Perrysburg-Maumee Bridge and the Ohio Turnpike bridge.
Bystanders say the deer had been stuck on the ice since Monday night and had been unable to get back on its feet to continue across.
As of early Tuesday evening, the deer had not fallen through the ice, but the surface was just too slippery for the animal to gain footing.
Local authorities and the Ohio Division of Wildlife are aware of the situation, but as of Tuesday evening, there are no rescue efforts underway.
The Division of Wildlife says that local and state agencies are not willing to risk personnel, and they discourage any civilians from trying to go out on the ice to free the deer.
