Toledo Classic ends Jamie Farr affiliation, Marathon to sponsorMore >>
Toledo Classic has announced an end to Jamie Farr's affiliation with the tournament. Marathon will step in as the new sponsor.More >>
Its the end of an era as TV star and Toledoan Jamie Farr steps away from the LPGA golf tournament. A big change after nearly 30 years.
At Blue Skies Fore Ever Indoor Golf in Toledo, many people didn't expect the news.
"Very surprised," Duane Horst, a member of Highland Meadows said. "Nobody anticipated this."
"We hate to see him go," Dave Clunk, also a Highland Meadows member, said. "He's a great ambassador for the game and the tournament and our town."
After almost three decades of the same "Face of the tournament," this year will undoubtedly be a little different. But Marathon says its committed to make the Toledo classic bigger and better. There are plans to televise all four rounds and the tournament's scholarship program will be permanently named the "Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund."
"Highland Meadows is a great place and a great venue," Clunk said. "They're going to pick up right where Jamie Farr left off."
Though his name may no longer be affiliated with the classic, his hard work and dedication will be remembered forever.
"Like anything that ages, someday it has to come to an end," Horst said.
