Erie School Board Okays Glenwood Sale

Posted: Updated:

Directors on the Erie School Board have okayed the sale of the now vacant Glenwood Elementary School on Peach Street.

The one and only bid was submitted by the Erie Federal Credit Union for slightly more than 1.1. million.

Although some school administrators expressed surprise that there wasn't more interest in the centrally located building, the board decided to accept the credit union bid and not re-bid the project.

Glenwood is the second school building to be sold within the past few months, bringing $2 million in revenue to the financially-strapped district.   The Erie federal Credit Union reportedly was looking for property on Peach Street in the city.  School Board Member Ed Brzezinski says the business should be a great neighbor on that block.

"Anyone who's seen any building the Credit Union has built in the last 10-15 years, has seen beautiful buildings and well-kept buildings.  They're going to knock down Glenwood School, from what I understand, and make a Corporate Center there.  So it's going to be beautiful," he said.

The sale will also place the property on the tax rolls.  The city, county, and school district would all benefit.
