Erie Police Detail Arrests of Several Suspects In Crime Ring

Posted: Updated:

Erie police are detailing the arrests of over a dozen suspects.
They're charged in a major burglary ring and crime spree, dating back nearly 3 years.

Police have identified and charged 12 people with corrupt organization, robbery, burglary, and various other crimes.
Detectives say they called themselves the Stick Up Kidz, and are responsible for burglaries, and armed robberies dating back to June of 2010.

Erie police detectives have been investigating this alleged organized crime and racketeering activity, since 2009, when police started tying together a series of crimes like burglaries and shootings.

"Once they started investigating these cases, they found there was a loosely organized ring of individuals who were engaged in a number of crimes, to involve corrupt organization, robbery, burglary, theft, receiving, obstruction of justice, intimidation of witnesses, all working in different crimes throughout the area." Said Erie Police Chief Steve Franklin.

As we've been reporting, the case came to a head back in October, when police raided a home along East 9th street.
They recovered  lots of electronics and weapons, that the group allegedly stole

"We had stolen guns, about 7 stolen guns recovered that were stolen in the city, stolen in North East, stolen in Girard, Fairview area." Said Detective Sgt. Jim Stumpo. "As this stands at this point, we're looking after all this is said and done, approximately 18 people being charged in this case." Stumpo added.

7 are in jail, and  police are actively looking for 5 more.
5 of the suspects are on the department's most violent offenders list.
