Presque Isle Bay is now one step closer to coming off a list of environmental trouble spots in the Great Lakes.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is suporting the decision by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The U.S. State Department will make the final decision.
The bay was listed as an area of concern more than 20 years ago because of extensive pollution. But dramatic improvements have made the bay much cleaner, although the cause of some fish tumors remains unclear.
Last year, the local Presque Isle Bay Advisory Committee voted to support the delisting, although some environmentalists opposed the idea.
