Track Set to Reopen after Train Derailment

Posted: Updated:

The track damaged during a train derailment last week is expected to reopen Friday.

The incident happened along the Crawford-Mercer county line, just south of Cochranton last Friday. Five train cars from the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad came off the tracks. One of the cars was carrying a flammable gas, but it did not leak.

Since the derailment, crews have been working to clear away the derailed cars and make repairs to the tracks. An official for the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad says crews will be working on the tracks until Friday morning. The first train is scheduled to come through around 1 p.m.
