TOLEDO, Ohio -
The January thaw will be short-lived across the eastern half of the country, but in the mean time temperatures are nearing on record levels.
Temperatures are 20-30 degrees above normal for the eastern 1/3rd of the country. High temperatures will soar into the 60s to near 70 degrees in some spots.
Meanwhile, the weather pattern is about to change and arctic air is surging into the west. The "battle zone" is lining up in the northern plains. A strong storm system is pushing out of the Mountain west and into the Dakotas where strong winds will develop over the next couple of days.
Wind gusts up to 45 mph along with 4-8" of snow will create blizzard conditions on the backside of this storm system, causing traveling problems in its path.
