Walleye Defeated in Florida 3-2

Posted: Updated:

ESTERO, FLA. - Toledo collected an early 2-0 lead but fell 3-2 in Florida. Toledo has an overall record of 19-15-0-4 and is 10-9-0-1 on the road this season.

The Walleye get the early hand tonight as Doug Clarkson would give Toledo a 1-0 lead just 23 seconds into the game. Stephon Thorne and Phil Oreskovic assisted on the third goal of the season for Clarkson. Toledo would make it 2-0 at 4:24 of the period when Olivier Malka blasted a blue line shot past Pat Nagle. Travis Novak and Randy Rowe collected the assists on the first goal for Malka with Toledo.

"We needed to get our offense going tonight," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "To do that we stressed getting pucks deep and being aggressive. We did that for the most part, we just couldn't get that third goal."

Florida would get a power play goal in the second period to close the Toledo lead to 2-1. The Walleye held a 31-14 shot advantage after two periods.

Florida would get back to back goals in the third period to collect a 3-2 lead. Toledo pressured with the extra attacker but could not tie the game.

Walleye Notes:  Goaltender Kent Simpson made 24 saves and is 7-8-0-3 on the season.
