Suspect arraigned in stalled vehicle-sex assault

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police have arrested a 22-year-old ex-convict they say offered to help a husband and wife in a stalled vehicle before sexually assaulting the woman.

Police say a 55-year-woman and her 63-year-old husband were in the vehicle Jan. 1 on the city's east side when the man approached them. Police say the suspect showed a weapon, demanded money and sexually assaulted the woman.

Police say the woman was treated and released. Her husband wasn't injured.

Detroit police say they identified a suspect, who was arrested in Livonia.

Twenty-two-year-old Howard McKnight was arraigned Sunday in Detroit District Court on kidnapping, armed robbery, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, repeat offender and other charges.

He's jailed on a $1 million bond and returns to court Jan. 22. It's unknown if he has a lawyer.
