We're wrapping up our series of reports profiling this year's finalists employer and entrepreneur of the year. The finalists were chosen by the Economic Development Corporation of Erie County.
Michael Weaver is an Erie man who used his knowledge of the oil and gas industry to start his own company, MKW Management . It's a company that keeps growing.
Weaver founded the company 3 years ago. It's still relatively small, with just 5 employees. But it is already a $3.5 million operation with 5 facilities scattered around western Pennsylvania.
Basically, Weaver builds and operates facilities that extract liquid petroleum products, including propane, from oil and gas wells.
In 2013, he hopes to continue the company's growth by adding 10 more employees and tripling the size of the company.
He credits his success to his employees, his law firm and accounting firm, but also his own focus on achieving his goals.
Weaver said, "I once had a vice-president tell me you can work hard or you can work smart. I learned to do both."
The awards for employer and entrepreneur will be give out at a the Economic Development Corporation's annual dinner Thursday night at the Bayfront Convention Center.
