The University of Toledo
Medical Center has received final approval to reinstate live kidney
transplants.
UTMC received official
word that the donor transplant program is in compliance with Medicaid and Medicare,
meaning the center can reinstate live kidney transplants within the next 10
days.
The university
voluntarily suspended live kidney transplants in August after a good kidney was
thrown away by a nurse during a surgery. Multiple people lost their jobs as a
result of that incident.
Now the medical center
has new procedures and security measures to prevent similar mistakes in the
future.
