We've seen flu numbers on the rise this year across the country, with well over 500 cases in Erie County alone. Many have been getting their flu shot, but there are other ways people are finding they can prevent the flu.
"Make sure you're eating lots of green, leafy vegetables and you have a good amount of fruit in your diet and good whole foods supplements," said Dr. Schreiber. "These things are all going to be protective at blocking the flu."
Instead of getting a flu shot, Dr. Schreiber suggest getting adjusted to make your immune system strong enough to fight the flu naturally.
"As a chiropractor, that's really our #1 job, to make sure you have 100% of the power from your brain, up and down your spinal cord out to the nervous system," said Dr. Schreiber. "Then the immune system can do the job it was designed to do and that is to protect the body from these viruses."
One of Dr. Schreiber's patients said she came in for vertigo, but quickly found that her chiropractic care could help with much more.
"I was always sick prior to coming here," said Vicki Sontheimer. "I would get the flu, bronchitis, pneumonia and the allergies were terrible. I'd have to take off work because it was so bad, since I've been coming here, everything is gone."
While their main focus is healing from the inside out, their patients also do therapy and exercise to keep healthy. They even recommend taking supplements and vitamins to help fight off the flu.
"Nowadays, everybody's looking for the healthy option," said Joshua Hicks, who works in physical therapy at River of Life Chiropractic. "Watch what you put in your body, the proper fuels we add to our body that's what's going to help you get to a healthier lifestyle."
Dr. Schreiber says he's finding more people coming in, just asking about the flu shot. He just wants people their are alternatives, so they can decide for themselves what's best.
