Local social worker Jay Breneman on Friday night formally announced his candidacy for Erie County Council.
Breneman will be running in the 4th District, which includes the City of Erie's south east side, Belle Valley and Wesleyville.
He says he's running because he believes its time to make Erie County a leader in the region, in economy and quality of life.
"I think the people of Erie County truly want a different leader, they want somebody who is more hands on in their community and they want somebody who will bring in new ideas and truly work hard for them," said Breneman.
Breneman will be facing Whitey Cleaver in the May 22 primary.
