President Barack has been officially sworn in for a second term at a small ceremony in the White House.
The subdued swearing-in is a function of the calendar and the Constitution, which says presidents automatically begin their new terms at noon on Jan. 20.
Vice President Joe Biden was also officially sworn in for his second term.
Biden took the oath of office early this morning during a private ceremony at the U.S. Naval Observatory, where he lives.
Both Biden and President Obama will take the oath of office again tomorrow during a public ceremony in Washington, D.C.
A crowd of up to 800,000 people is expected for tomorrow's public swearing-in on the Capitol's west front.
