LINCOLN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A 14-year-old central Michigan boy who came to the rescue of a rape victim fleeing a homicidal ex-convict is drawing praise from classmates and family for his courage.

James Persyn III was home alone with his 11-year-old sister and 2-year-old brother Wednesday night when a Central Michigan University student banged on the door.

James says it sounded like "she was going to die" unless he admitted her to their home in Isabella County's Lincoln Township.

His 36-year-old father tells the Detroit Free Press many teens might not have let her in.

James did admit her, giving her a phone to call police while he hid his siblings in a bathroom.

Thirty-year-old Eric Ramsey tried to burn the house, then fled and was shot to death by a sheriff's deputy.
