Weather conditions were far from ideal for Erie's annual march to honor slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King.
But since the event began in 1991, the march has often taken place in cold, snowy weather. So the estimated 300 marchers were prepared. The adults and children wore boots, hats, gloves, scarves and heavy coats.
They braved the snow to walk from city hall to the MLK Center at West 3rd and Chestnut. Some sang, while others carried signs. They all said they wanted to join together to show their support for the dreams of justice and equality advanced by Dr. King.
The Executive Director of the MLK Center, James Sherrod said,"Some of the dream has been realized and we all need to step up and understand and keep pushing forward doing whatever we need to do to make other parts of the dream realized."
Gannon University President Dr. Keith Taylor said, "It is an important day for us to come together as a community in times when social issues are just as important today as they were several decades ago."
