This week's snows and frigid temperatures may be a headache for drivers, but they are proving to be a boon for area tow truck drivers and repair shop owners.
John Broadbent, a driver with Peterson Towing, says the company is running more than two times a normal day.
"We usually average 80 calls in the summertime, we're doing about 200 now," he told us.
Repair shops have been humming too, but many of the problems can be fixed with some basic upkeep.
"Good tread first of all," Mike Hilbrich of Hallman Chevrolet says, "make sure all lights work correctly, the antifreeze has proper freeze protection, fresh oil, things like that."
Many of the tow calls are to jump a battery weakened by the frigid temperatures or spray de-icer into frozen locks.
Another problem is people trying to run wipers that are frozen to windshields. That can cause the gears in the motors to strip, which leads to a fairly expensive repair.
