Local attorney Jamie Mead is running for County Judge.
He made the announcement on Thursday at the Erie County Courthouse.
He's been a lawyer for over 30 years, many of which were spent in his hometown of Erie, and his family owns the Erie- Times News.
He says growing up in a newspaper environment gives him greater insight into the community.
"I think when you grow up in a newspaper family you're very conscious of the community, the community's need, the interaction in the community between politics and business and the law," said Mead. "I think you get a unique perspective of how things should work for the community to go forward."
Mead is running to replace Michael Dunleavy, who stepped down for health reasons.
