President Obama's
nominee for Treasury Secretary met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill Thursday. 13abc's
Washington Bureau was the only TV crew present as Senator Sherrod Brown invited
Jack Lew to his office.
Brown sits on the Senate
Finance Committee, which will be conducting Lew's confirmation hearings in a
few weeks.
The two men and their
staffs spoke for about half an hour, focusing on protecting Medicare, Medicaid,
Social Security and more.
"I also expressed
to him that over the years there's been a bias in Washington - a long-held bias - against
manufacturing and in favor of the banks," says Senator Brown. "I expressed that
I hope this administration continues to move towards more balance that way. We
know how important manufacturing is in Toledo,
and we know what the auto rescue meant."
When asked if he would
support Lew's nomination, Brown said it's "likely," but he'll want to
listen to the hearings first.
