Police standoff on Airport Highway ends

Posted: Updated:

One man was rushed to the hospital Friday afternoon after a seven-hour standoff with Toledo police.

Sheriff's deputies and state troopers were called to a home on Airport Highway around 8:30 Friday morning.

Investigators tell us a man barricaded himself inside the house and threatened to shoot himself.

Authorities surrounded the home, tossed in tear gas and brought the suspect out around 3:30 p.m.

The man was found inside injured but conscious. Police have not released the cause of his injury. He was taken from the home on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital.

Crissey Elementary was put on a brief lockdown as a precaution Friday morning, and Airport Highway was closed in both directions throughout the day.

There is no word on the suspect's condition at this time. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
