Erie's Bayfront Convention Center is "going to the dogs" this weekend. Nearly 1,000 dogs will compete in the Erie Kennel Club's annual show. It's the biggest dog show of the year in our region.
One hundred sixty-five breeds will compete for prizes including Best in Show. And there will also be obedience competitions.
Today a few dogs were getting in some practice with their handlers. And many vendors were busy setting up, preparing for the weekend crowds.
Organizers say the two day event provides a big boost to the local economy.
Show Co-Chairman David Anthony said, "I think it is a great thing for the economy. They are going to hotels and restaurants. All the exhibitors are out-of-towners."
Many of the dogs are from the tri-state area. But there will be dogs from as far away at Iowa, Indiana and Massachusetts.
The event will be held Saturday from 9am-5pm and Sunday from 8:30am-4pm. Admission is $5.
