Snowfall makes mess of some roads

Posted: Updated:

The snowfall created slick, wet roads causing several car accidents and traffic delays across Northwest Ohio.

Snow plows had a busy day clearing major routes after Friday morning's snow fall dumped a fresh coating across the region.

"I'm not a fan of it. Ready for some warm weather," says Matt Mellott of Seneca County which was placed under a level one snow emergency.

In Toledo folks quickly got to work tackling the sidewalks.

The roads in the city were wet. The slippery conditions played a role in several fender benders.

Just after noon, the northbound lanes of I-75 near the DiSalle bridge were backed up due to several spin outs.

About an hour earlier, an accident at Detroit and South sent one person to the hospital. That person is expected to be OK. Toledo police say one vehicle made a left hand turn when it wasn't supposed to. The second vehicle couldn't stop to avoid the crash.

In Seneca County, the Sheriff's Department issued a level one snow emergency.

That's because roads were icy.

"Depending on if you're on the state or county road. State puts a lot more salt down than the county does, but township roads are kind of horrible," says Mellott.

Chuck Wilbert lives in Old Fort and enjoys the opportunity to jump on his tractor outfitted with a snow-thrower, considering last winter he didn't need it at all.

"It's got 16 horse and it can chew through a pretty good drift with it," says Wilbert. "I'm out here for six hours at a time because I go from the railroad tracks up to the school on the sidewalk and I do the neighbors. A lot of times it takes me an hour to do my own here. I have a lot of fun doing it though."
