Women's Basketball Recap - Olivet 58, Adrian 49

ADRIAN - The women's basketball team had two main factors go against them on Saturday afternoon versus Olivet. The first thing was the Comets' bench which outscored Adrian's reserves 33-13. The other factor was that Adrian did not convert a field goal over the final 9:05 of the game and scored just two points at the free throw line. The result was a 58-49 loss to Olivet in a game which featured five ties and eight lead changes.

The Comets scored the game's first six points but Adrian responded with an 8-0 run to take an 8-6 lead 6:17 into the contest. For there both teams battled back and forth in the first half with Olivet taking a 22-18 lead with 3:33 left after a layup by Melissa Bageris. The Comets would also lead by four points, 27-23, at halftime. Olivet shot 37.9 percent in the opening half while Adrian shot 23.3 percent (7-of-30).

Adrian came out of the locker room with energy and opening the second half on a 9-0 run to take a 32-27 lead. The Bulldogs increased their lead to eight points twice at the 12:21 and 11:14 marks for their biggest lead of the game. Olivet regrouped and scored seven straight points to cut the deficit to 43-42 with 9:47 to play. JuniorLauren Rhoads would make a triple with 9:05 remaining to give Adrian a 47-42 lead. Little did they know it would be the last field goal of the contest for the home team.

Olivet trimmed the lead down to a 47-47 tie with 5:01 to go after a Stefanie Lang jumper. The Comets would put together a 13-0 run which sealed the fate for the Bulldogs. Olivet pounded the ball inside to Lang who ended shooting 9-of-13 from the floor for 22 points in just 18 minutes. Olivet had 34 points out of 58 in the painted area. Rhoads led the Bulldogs with 16 points and also had a pair of steals in 40 minutes. Casey Fougerousse added nine points on three triples which all came in the first half. She attempted just one shot in the second half. Adrian shot 25 percent (16-of-64) for the contest while Olivet shot 40.4 percent (21-of-52).
