Track Concludes Findlay Classic

FINDLAY - The University of Findlay men and women's indoor track and field teams completed the Findlay Classic on Saturday, Jan. 26 in Findlay, Ohio.

Taylor Miller made his mark in the shot put with a second place, NCAA provisional qualifying heave of 59-02.75. That distance is also the top mark in the country for men's shot putters thus far this season. Marcus Vicars and Darren Bass finished fourth and fifth in the same event with NCAA provisional qualifying marks of 56-08.75 and 53-06.50, respectively. Vicars' heave was good enough to be the fourth best mark in the country.

In the men's triple jump, Glen Forsythe placed first with an NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 47-11.75, while Thomas Colin took second with a distance of 46-04.25. Derek Spindler placed third in the pole vault with a height of 15-01.00.

In men's track events, the 4x400-meter relay team of Michael Travis, Tim Sanders, Joe Sherrieb and Dillon Webster took second with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:21.45. Individually, Sanders also took third in the 60-meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.26, while Webster placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.36.

Jacob Hayes was a standout for the Oilers in the 3,000-meter run, placing first with a time of 8:54.32.

On the women's side, Kendra Averesch had the fourth best throw in the country for the shot put with a first place, NCAA provisional qualifying heave of 47-06.25. Lydia Guagenti also took first in the high jump with a mark of 5-02.25.

In women's track events, the 4x400-meter relay team of Samantha Grippe, Guagenti, Deidre Latham and Maud Sanmiquel took fourth with a time of 4:11.98. Individually, Erica Bettac took fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.97.

The Oilers will be back in action next week when they host the Findlay Open on Feb. 1.
