Posted: Updated:

SYLVANIA - Lourdes allowed a school record-low 42 points on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves posted a 49-42 victory over Michigan-Dearborn at Tam-o-Shanter.

The Gray Wolves bettered their previous best defensive effort of 45 points allowed in a win against Penn State-Greater Allegheny on Nov. 19, 2011.

"Today was a very physical game and I think that was to our advantage," head coach Zareth Gray said about the victory.  "We matched up well with them and got a good defensive effort.  We played really well as a team."

Lourdes held the Wolves to just 25.4% shooting from the floor and held a decisive 24-10 scoring advantage in the point while outrebounding Michigan-Dearborn 50-34.

Michigan-Dearborn jumped out to a quick 10-3 lead less than five minutes into the game before Lourdes went on a run.  Eight straight points put the Gray Wolves on top as part of a 22-7 spurt over 12 minutes in which Lourdes built an eight-point lead 25-17.  The hosts would eventually take a 27-20 lead into intermission.

After the Wolves scored the first points of the second half, Lourdes answered with five straight, with a layup by Emily Orsini (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban H.S.) extending the lead to double digits, 32-22, for the first time on the afternoon.  Five straight points by the Wolves cut the Gray Wolves lead to 39-34 with 9:50 to play, put Lourdes immediately pushed the lead back out to 11but the five minute mark to help secure the victory.

Tarynn Hampton (Saint Louis, Mo./Alton H.S.) led Lourdes with a double-double, the third in her last four games.  She scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Orsini added 12 points.  Ty Ali (Chicago, Ill./Rich South H.S.) scored nine points and Jessica Durr (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton H.S.) grabbed nine rebounds.

"Jessica really gave us great effort off of the bench today," Gray added.

Chelsea Davis led Michigan-Dearborn (6-15, 5-10 WHAC) with 17 points and eight rebounds while Jalissa Williams added 10 points and eight boards.

Lourdes (7-16, 4-11) will return to the hardwood on Monday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to battle Aquinas.  Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
