Walleye beat Bakersfield

TOLEDO - The Toledo Walleye scored five unanswered goals tonight to defeat the Bakersfield Condors 5-1 in front of a sold-out crowd of 8,200 at the Huntington Center on Saturday night. Toledo improves their record to 22-17-0-4 and is now 10-7-0-3 at home.

Bakersfield opened the scoring just :52 into the game when Peter Boyd squeezed a puck over the goal line to give the Condors an early 1-0 lead.

The Walleye would answer back at the 5:08 mark of the opening period after forward Doug Clarkson picked up a rebound and wristed a shot behind Bakersfield goaltender Brian Stewart. Pat Knowlton assisted on the play that evened the scoring up at 1-1.

Toledo took a 2-1 lead with 1:28 to play in the first period with Cody Lampl chipping in on the offense. Lampl jumped up into the play and took a great give-and-go pass from Andrej Nestrasil and redirected a puck behind Stewart.

Walleye goalie Kent Simpson stopped 11 shots in the first 20:00 while Toledo fired 16 at the Bakersfield net.

Forward Trevor Parkes would pick up his second goal of the year after he banged home a shot from the ice on the power play. Parkes knocked in the rebound of Joey Martin's initial shot with the second assist going to Nestrasil at 11:54 of the second period.

The Walleye registered 12 shots at Stewart for a two-period total of 28. Simpson stopped all eight that Bakersfield sent at him.

Forward Joey Martin rifled a shot into the net after a Bakersfield player ran Parkes into Stewart. Martin's seventh goal of the year came at 10:31 of the third period, extending Toledo's lead to 4-1. Lampl collected the second assist on the goal.

Martin picked up his second of the night just :41 later, redirecting a pass from Parkes, to put the Walleye ahead 5-1. Nestrasil picked up his third assist of the night on the final goal of the game.
