Walleye melt the IceMen in weekend finale, 4-1

TOLEDO - Toledo netted four goals tonight as they beat the Evansville IceMen 4-1 on Sunday at the Huntington Center. The Walleye are now 23-17-0-4 overall and improve to 11-7-0-3 on home ice.

Toledo would strike first tonight, breaking the 0-0 tie at the 9:37 mark of the first period. Adam Hobson made a diving effort a batted the puck behind IceMen goaltender Paul Karpowich after Joey Ryan would get a pass to him. Nino Musitelli registered the second assist on the goal, getting a pass to Ryan from behind the goal line.

Toledo sent nine shots at Karpowich, while Toledo netminder Jordan Pearce kept Evansville off the board, saving all seven shots he faced.

No goals were scored by either team in the second period, as Toledo held a 1-0 lead through two periods of play. The Walleye registered 13 shots on goal and Pearce remained solid stopping the 11 shots on goal Evansville sent at him.

Willie Coetzee gave the Walleye a 2-0 lead after he took a pass from Musitelli and ripped a shot behind Karpowich and into the Evansville goal. Musitelli had the lone assist on the score that came at 15:21 of the third period.

Coetzee would then receive a pass from Cody Lampl and sent the puck into the empty net, giving Toledo a 3-0 lead. Andrej Nestrasil would collect the second assist on the goal that came with 1:00 left to play in the game.

Evansville would score their only goal with 40 seconds left in the game.

Stephon Thorne picked up his fourth goal of the year with 15 seconds left in the game, to solidify a 4-1 victory over the IceMen. Kyle Rogers assisted on Toledo's last goal of the game.
