Airport Hwy. standoff suspect shot self in chest

We have new details on Friday's standoff in Springfield Township that closed part of Airport Highway for hours.

The Lucas County Sheriff's Office confirms the suspect, 51-year-old Jeffery Derden, shot himself in the chest after officers fired tear gas into his home.

Investigators say earlier in the morning Derden had been arrested for an OVI charge and released.

Officers say he barricaded himself in his home and threatened to kill himself.

There is no word on his condition at this time.
